Vancouver

My train from Portland to Seattle was replaced by a bus (yes it happens here too). By the time the train pulled out of Seattle the sun was going down with the line running right along the sea. Lots of people down on the beaches and in the water. And loads of great big logs - hard to see all that wood just lying around!

Train was further delayed and so it was half eleven before we made it to Vancouver. My cousin Tim was there to meet me and take me to his house. Next morning a welcome cup of Earl Grey.

Queen Elizabeth Park

Couldn't work out what these were until someone told me to watch out for his pal who wasn't a very good shot - frisbee golf!

Lots of nice family homes in the area near Tim's. Planning policy keeps the roof line low. And then on some of the more major streets they can build 4 story blocks which have retail units on the ground floor. Makes for a good mixed neighbourhood and no towers.

Totem poles in Stanley Park

Tim took me for a cycle with his girls on the path that loops around Stanley Park following the coast.

So lovely to reconnect with family and meet the next generation. On to Salt Spring Island next.
